The Night: World Music

sun 31 may 2015 01:00 hour

In this night you can listen to a selection of Cajun, Zydeco and Blues music. Cajun and Zydeco are related to the blues which goes back to the 18th century and originated from a mix of Cajun folk music and the music of the coloured population in the French speaking part of Louisiana in the United States. Cajun music is sung in Cajun French; the original composition of the instruments was violin, accordion and the triangle.

Les Chat Cadiens.

The band arranges traditional songs and write their own songs varying from Cajun, Zydeco, Mississippi guitar blues, Americana and Texmex. In June 2004 singer Henk de Kat (former member of La Blusa) was declared best Zydeco accordion player in Europe by the audience during the twelfth edition of the Cajun & Zydeco festival in Raamsdonksveer and he received the first European Cajun & Zydeco Award.

Bois Sec Ardoin.jpgAlphonse Ardoin was born in 1915. As a child he had the nickname Bois Sec ("dry wood") because he had the reputation to be the first to take shelter in the cotton fields when it suddenly began to rain.

In those days he started to play regularly at dance parties and on the radio. In 1966 he was on the programme of the prestigious “Newport Folk Festival”.
