The Previous Century

thu 17 jul 2014 12:00 hour

Irving Schlein #3. The Previous Century is devoted to the works of American Jewish composer Irving Schlein.

Galina Sandovskaja plays Irving Schlein‘s sonatine as well as his Second suite for piano from 1942.
Followed by Inga Dzekster who plays the Fourth Piano sonata from 1941, with the Andantino con moto, Languidly and Vivace parts.
Schlein’s experiences ‘on and off Broadway’, in combination with the way in which he managed to develop his talents in the ‘borscht belt’, had a strong influence on his classical compositions. He expresses a strong empathy with his listeners, which is reflected in appealing and, according to critics, accessible classical music.
Members of the Academia String Quartet Petersburg are next with the Fuga in c minor and Berceuse for String trio from 1941. Next, the Contrasts for hobo, horn and string quintet from the same year are performed by horn player Igor Karzov, hobo player Pavel Serebrjakov, violinists Sandra Schinder and Natalia Kopatsjanoe, viola player Dmitri Jaboebovski, cellist Vladimir Joenovitsj and contrabass player Aleskandr Beztsjastny.
The parts are 1. Moderato, moving freely, and 2. Allegretto, rather playfully.
