Music of the gypsies part 1 (of 2).
Kocani Orkestar
In two episodes of this programme you can listen to music by the Roma, commonly known as gypsies. The origin of these people, who are not from one particular country, is the western part of India and the east of Pakistan, but there is some evidence that suggests roots in the Saka, a Scythian Sarmatian tribe to the north of India.
The Roma’s music can be roughly divided into two categories: the music performed for an audience and the music performed privately. We will play examples from both categories.
The music in this programme comes from the following CDs:
- Musiques Rromani d’Albanie, Rromano Dives. Chaj Zibede.
