The art of the Improvisers – Hans Reichel 8

This evening’s episode is the last one on Hans Reichel (Hagen 1949 – Wuppertal 2011). Together with Peter Kowald and Peter Brötzmann, he was the most important improviser in Germany.

Reichel wasn’t only a guitarist, but also an instrument maker, typographer, tile designer, and inventor of the daxophone. He was always searching for new sounds. To this end he used unconventional playing techniques and designed guitars with two and three necks and the daxophone.

In Reichel’s compositions and improvisations you can clearly hear his love for designing letters and tiles: he executes clear ideas as consistently as possible.

This evening we will hear Hans Reichel as a daxophonist and (double-necked) guitarist.

We’ll play music from:

Bonobo – Hans Reichel (FMP 1976)

Lower Lurum (A Guitar And Daxophone Operetta) – Hans Reichel (Rastacan Records 1994)

Yuko A New Daxophone Operetta – Hans Reichel (FMP 1996) and

Show-Down in Zürich and Tokyo – Wädi Gysi & Hans Reichel (Intakt Records 1991)
