Pablo Milanés & Chucho Valdés.
This is an album by two old friends, Cuban celebrities and Grammy winners, who never before had recorded an album together. Pablo Milanés is one of the greatest singer-songwriters of Cuba, a hero of the ‘nueva trova’ movement, that wanted to renew the changes made to Cuban music after the revolution. But Pablo Milanés became better known for his sentimental ballads than for his political hymns. Chucho Valdés is revered just as much, both for continuing his father’s tradition of being of of Cuba’s best pianist, as for founding the invigorating band ‘Irakere’. On this intimate album, we hear him being a sensitive, versatile accompanist with demure piano work.
