Italian music by Benito Merlino,  the Napoli Mandolin Orchestra and Sergio Laccone.

1-

Benito Merlino was a poet, composer, journalist, writer and film director born in Filicudi, a small island in the province of Messina. He tried to keep his ethnological memory, myths, legends and musical traditions alive. With a sulfur-like voice he sings stories about the aeolian islands, tuna and swordfish, coral, Barbarossa pirates, the maffia, emigration, the poor and the mighty and beggars and emperors who are all united in destiny’s web, just as the plan of departure and return.

Napoli Mandolin Orchestra.

The rediscovery of Neapolitan music by Paliotti’s trio is continued by this album, which was created for a variety of mandolins. The musicians play well-known repertoire, but of such high quality that they managed to revive the popular legacy.
