Composer: Olivier Messiaen

Music by 20th-century composers. Olivier Messiaen #1. His teenage years and his time at the conservatoire.

Messiaen was born in Avignon, and during the war, he moved to Grenoble. After the war, he spent a short while in Nantes, before moving to Paris. He is exposed to literature, poetry, the Catholic faith and teaches himself to play the piano. At the conservatoire, he excels in almost everything he studies or plays. He wins awards for the piano, the organ, music history and composition.
