Piano for the left hand #2.

It wasn’t just Paul Wittgenstein who commissioned piano music for the left hand alone after World War I. Czech Otakar Hollmann [pictured] did so as well. This hour features the results of requests he made to Bohuslav Martinû, Leos Janácek and Erwin Schulhoff.

  1.  Bohuslav Martinû: Concertino for piano and chamber orchestra H 173 ‘Divertimento’. Jan Panenka, piano; Prague Chamber Orchestra conducted by Bohumil Gregor
  2.  Leos Janácek: Capriccio for piano and wind section. Rudolf Firkusny, piano; members of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rafael Kubelik
  3.  Erwin Schulhoff: Suite no. 3 for the left hand alone. Maxime Zecchini, piano.
