Bass virtuoso Stanley Clarke (1951)
Tonight we will focus on the American bassist Stanley Clarke (1951). He is the founder of one of the first fusion jazz bands, called Return To Forever. He is also the first fusion bassist to sell out venues worldwide and win gold records as a solo artist. He is a true icon.
Clarke started with accordion and violin before finally landing on the double bass. Simply because nobody in his school days had an interest in the instrument, it was just sitting in a corner collecting dust. The rest is history…
Tonight, you will hear a selection from Clarke’s career, including collaborations with Stan Getz, Chick Corea, and The New Barbarians, a band formed by Ronnie Wood.
