Mathias Duplessy – Crazy Horse (2016)
The album of 2016 exudes Asia, is bluesy and bathes in Celtic rhythms and melodies from the Mongolian prairie. And all with a wink to western classical music with the famous Pavane pourune infante défunte of Maurice Ravel.
Nguyen Le & Ngo Hong Quang – Ha Noi Duo (2017)
For years, French guitarist Nguyên Lê has been an ambassador for Vietnamese music. In his compositions, he mixes traditional music with western harmonies. For his latest album ‘Ha Noi Dou’, he renewed his music and together with Vietnamese violinist Ngô Hông Quang created a Dan-Bau, a one-stringed Vietnamese instrument made of bamboo.
Ya Tosiba – Love Party (2017)
Asphalt Tango Records will soon release the album Love party of Ya Tosiba. It is being described as pan/European electronic music from Azerbaijan and Finland.
Kila – Kila – Alive (2017)
The new album entitled Kila – Alive was recorded during Kila’s 2016 tour of locations and festivals through the whole of Ireland. This live journey showcases the best of this collective of eight and their beautiful stage podium performances. As ever, Kila plays energetically and inspired.
Light In Babylon – Yeni Dunya (2016)
From the east of the Mediterranean, comes the music of the group Light in Babylon.
Their music is described as a celebration of cosmopolitan traditions from both Istanbul and the Sepharic Jewish community. In November of 2016, the group released its second album, entitled “Yeni Dunya” (Turkish for New World)
Les Amazones D’Afrique – République Amazone (2017)
Real World Records raised an impressive line-up with super group Les Amazones D’Afrique: Angélique Kidjo, Rokia Koné, Mamani Keita, Nneka, Massan Coulibaly, Kandia Kouyaté, Madiaré Dramé, Madina N’Diaye, Mariam Doumbia and Inna Modja, who all can be heard on the recently released album République Amazone.
Vataff Project – Solbmen (2017)
Of the Xango label comes the albu Solbmen of the Vataff Project, which was recently released in the Netherlands.
Vataff Project is the invention of Bulgarian composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Victor Marinov. On this album he is aided by Anton Karadimchev (guitar,vocals), Veselin Mitev (duduk) and Rossen Zahariev (flügelhorn), although it’s hard to find their contributions in the mix.
Sonia Aimy – Nigerian Spirit (2017)
With her unavoidable, velvety voice Nigerian born singer, songwriter and actress Sonia Aimy embodies contemporary African world music.
Her sound combines Afro jazz with African griot traditions in easily fluent, but skillful performances.
Oumou Sangaré – Mogoya (2017)
Oumou is famous for her clear voice, her fresh, sensual songs and her powerful stage presence. At the age of 18, she was singing in the streets. Three years later, Oumou Sangaré had her international breakthrough through her energetic songs. Her debut album Moussoulou (‘Women’) from 1990 was partly successful due to its lyrics, that openly broke taboos. Her lyrics take on the discrimination of African women.
