Her sound combines Afro jazz with African griot traditions in easily fluent, but skillful performances.

Oumou Sangaré – Mogoya (2017)

Oumou is famous for her clear voice,  her  fresh, sensual songs and her powerful stage presence. At the age of 18, she was singing in the streets. Three years later, Oumou Sangaré had her international breakthrough through her energetic songs. Her debut album Moussoulou (‘Women’) from 1990 was partly successful due to its lyrics, that openly broke taboos. Her lyrics take on the discrimination of African women.
