Founded in 1987, the 13-piece Irish choir Anúna, under the direction of composer Michael McGlynn, recorded a series of albums with Rivierdans. The album The best of Anúna contains 22 songs including: August, from a poem by Francis Ledwidge, a rare early Irish song written in 1150, the 16th century Gaudete and an ode to the 13th century St Magnus of the Orkneys and to St. Patrick. The whole instrumentally supported by: guitar, low flute, viola / violin, percussion, vibraphone, flute, concert and Irish harp, uileann pipes and tin whistle.

Joe Burke (1939-2021) was one of the greatest exponents of traditional Irish music. Irish folk, a compilation with about 20 Irish folk singers & bands. Folk music is a living art form that tells and passes on its history. As with any vital art form, there are passionate debates. The term national anthem is controversial. Blues musician Big Bill Broonzy, to the question: What is folk music would have answered: All music is folk music. In the end it doesn’t matter. What matters is that the music lives on and enriches our lives.

Irish singer/songwriter Luka Bloom (real name Barry Moore) doesn’t like to look back nostalgically. But, as he writes in the press release for the album Dreams In America, sometimes you have to. More than twenty years ago he went to New York because he was musically hopelessly stuck in Ireland. Ironically, this American Dream eventually brought him back to Ireland and mainland Europe, where his music has been the most popular in recent years. Celtic Woman is an all-female Irish musical ensemble from the Irish show Riverdance. Cumulatively, Celtic Woman albums have sold over nine million records worldwide.
The foundation for the popularity of Celtic music outside of Ireland and Europe was laid by leveraging the success of artists such as Enya and Clannad.

World Library of Folk & Primitive music.
This album was recorded in 1951 by Alan Lomax & Robin Roberts, among others, in collaboration with the BBC and the Irish Folklore Commission. Alan Lomax went in search of the traditional Irish singing culture that had largely fallen apart: Gaelic songs, English ballads from the 17th and 18th centuries, lullabies, work songs and lamentations.

Maddy Prior.
Ballads and Candles is a look back at Maddy’s career. The album was recorded during a 1999/2000 tour of Cambridge, London and Warwick. From ballad artist to folk rock goddess, Maddy Prior has become a fixture on the English folk scene. She is supported by singers June Tabor, keyboardist Nick Holland and violinist Peter Knight, among others.
