The Palace of Nostalgia

Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg.

In Sinatra’s footsteps

Marlene Dietrich called him the ‘Mercedes Benz’ of men. Bono famously said, ‘Frank is the man and we’re all just guests on his planet’. Even though it’s been 22 years since Frank Sinatra died, his impact is still palpable.

In today’s Palace a mix of Sinatra himself and those that followed his footsteps. Various members of the ‘Brat Pack’: people like Harry Connick jr, his protégé Peter Cincotti (who was once described by the New York Times as ‘he plays piano like Errol Garner and sings like Frank Sinatra’, and Canadian retro-crooners Matt Dusk and Michael Bublé.

We’ll also listen to a few old-timers, like Sinatra’s fellow Italian, the indestructible Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin and the singer with ‘the best lungs of them all’ Vic Damone.

We’ll conclude this episode with ‘the British Sinatra’ Matt Monro, ‘the sepia Sinatra’ Billy Eckstine, German Tom Gable of The Young Sinatra’s, Buddy Greco and singing composer Matt Dennis.
Welcome to the Sinatra universe!
