Jazz, blues and nostalgia; Musically travelling through time

Musical time travel in today’s Palace. With a poignant performance by Johnny Cash (whose lover had just died while standing in the vestibule of death) of a song by Kris Kristofferson.
Also ‘the best singer nobody ever heard of’: the obscure David Allyn – who after a flashy start disappeared into misery, and reappeared by coincidence.
The British-Italian violinist Alfredo Campoli, a super-summery Astrud Gilberto, guitarist Les Paul with the ancient ‘Nola’.
Frank Sinatra for once not singing but telling a story in ‘Some traveling music’, the magnificent jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery, spicy swing by Woody Herman’s band, introduced by himself, the ‘black Marilyn Monroe’ Dorothy Dandridge, Dave Lambert and Buddy Stewart.
Ben Bakema was one of the most striking personalities in Dutch jazz history, working as an artist as Red Debroy with his own Swingers in ‘Oh, lady be good’.
Followed by posthumously revived Dean Martin (together with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy), Ella Fitzgerald by the Marty Paich Dek-tette, Nat King Cole purely on piano.
And from more recent times the British folk group The Unthanks, cabaret performer Maya Bouma.
