Today, we give ample attention to the ‘new’ Ella Fitzgerald album ‘The Lost Berlin Tapes’ on which a masterly registration of a performance in Berlin in 1962. Notable is that something went wrong in ‘Mack the Knife’, just like two years before, when she forgot a text and started improvising.
Further, you hear the ‘Nightingale of the Americas’, or the ‘Bing Crosby of Mexico’, Pedro Vargas, and you hear Billy Eckstine, who gave up his sporting career to become a professional singer, in the ‘Stormy Monday Blues’.
