A treasure hunt in the varied oeuvre of one of the greatest Dutch comedians. Besides the known successes such as ‘De slinger van de koffergrammafoon’, there will be mostly hidden gems. Including the jubilant cheerfulness in his French orientated early songs, Toon who goes to war against the overall tiredness in his studies with Professor Rötelflöt, and when he talks about how he was born in the circus – with the overwhelming Frau Knutze and her ‘Riesen Löwe’: ‘Menschenkinder!’ Furthermore, a promotion picture for his failed feature film ‘Moutarde van Sonansee’, his absurdist songs ‘Kolderliedjes’, and his American adventure that failed before the end. His shows were prepared in detail, but Toon was a magistral improviser as well. We can hear him make joke after joke when people arrived late just when he wanted to start singing a song about his dearly loved Limburg. And of course, Love, an ode to the voluptuous ‘Marie’ who stood so perpendicular to her blissful tripod (“so casual but yet so beautiful”) and something from his most recent session for a stilled album that was supposed to become ‘the most beautiful’ in his career, and maybe it was…
