The Palace of Nostalgia

sat 18 oct 2025 19:00 hrs

Music from the days of yore. This time, a track by Ella Fitzgerald from the prototype of her Songbook albums, People Will Say We’re in Love from the Broadway show Oklahoma. And as a contrast, also by the original performers, Alfred Drake and Joan Roberts.

Further on, the ancient Atlantic Dance Orchestra with an ode to silent film comedian Harold Lloyd from Safety Last. Herman van Veen sings about a little girl on a small wobbly bicycle. And another Little Girl is brought to life by Chet Baker and Art Pepper.

We’ll hear Les Elgart with the stirring Bandstand Boogie, which drew young people to their TV screens for many years to watch the music show American Bandstand.

The Metropole Orkest with Piano Concerto in F by George Gershwin, conducted by Jan Stulen.

The Blue Diamonds — recently honoured with a statue in Driebergen, the Netherlands — with what they loved to play most: rock-like songs such as Hey! Ba-Ba-Re-Bop.

Singer, guitarist, songwriter, and civil rights activist Josh White with Trouble, a song that is still relevant today.

Helen Merrill sings about another kind of trouble — a woman whose man comes home with lipstick on his cheek that is not hers.

And The Delmore Brothers with Careless Love.

You’ll also hear: the British King Brothers, swinging organist Jimmy Smith, the British folk group The Unthanks, Wim Sonneveld and Peggy Lee.

To sum it up: an hour of timeless music from days gone by.
