In 1960 Nigeria became independent after a century of colonial occupation by Great-Britain and it was celebrated with a single which was especially released for this occasion. A highlife song Nigerian Independence of the Tex Dandies Dance Band. It was released by Philips West African Records, an important player on the Nigerian vinyl music market.
