Mihaly Mosonyi (1815-1870)
Composer Mihaly Mosonyi was born as Michael Brand. After the uprisings of 1848/49 and the early death of his wife in 1851, Michael Brand had become aware that he preferred to be Mihaly Mosonyi, in life as in music. Mosonyi’s string quartets were written before 1846 and are influenced by Haydn and Beethoven, and especially by Louis Spohr. Mosonyi, like most of his contemporaries, not only wrote pleasant, elegant and entertaining music in Hungary, but also in Poland, for example.
