The programme of today opens with the finale of String Quartet opus 4 ‘De la guitarra” of Turina from 1910. Many years later, Turina composed two more works: ‘Oracion del torero’, and ‘Serenata’ opus 87. Both compositions are picturesque and recognizably Spanish.
‘Cuarteto en estilo popular’ of Manuel Palau Boix is harmonious an melodic, and as the title of the quartet implies, seasoned with elements from folk music. The first part of the ‘Second String Quartet’, in F major, of Ruperto Chapí, concludes this Spanish ‘triptych’
