Charles Curtis and Eliane Radigue.
The American cello player Charles Curtis is one of the most adventurous cello players and performers of the moment. Composers such as La Monte Young and Alvin Lucier have already written for him and he has had his own rock trio in which he could indulge his longing for experimenting. In 2005, Curtis took on a collaboration with the French/American composer Eliane Radigue, a pioneer in the field of electro-acoustic music. Hermitess Radigue is known for her monumental drone works that she produces entirely and solely on her Arp synthesizer. Recently, Radigue hung her Arp on the willows and now she’s back to writing works again for musicians and instruments. Curtis asked Radigue for a new piece and the result is the masterly ‘Naldjorlak’. A cello solo work that has come into being in close collaboration with the composer and perfectly fits in with the works of Radigue. Recently, the French label Shiiin has put this piece on CD. Besides the broadcast in full of this remarkable cello work, you will also hear music by the Charles Curtis Trio and a part from ‘Songs for Milarepa’ by Eliane Radigue in this Theme broadcast.
