Concert in de series Panorama Cloud Night of organization U Jazz: the quartet of baritone saxophone player Tini Thomsen, Ellister van der Molen on the bugle, bass player Jos Machtel and drummer Niek de Bruijn (prize-winner of the Erasmus Jazz Award 2013) will give a contemporary tribute to the music of Gerry Mulligan and Art Farmer. Gerry Mulligan experimented with quartets without pianos since 1952. By leaving out the piano, the band could play more freely. He played with this composition with Chet Baker and with West Coast musicians like Lee Konitz, Bob Brookmeyer and Paul Desmond. Trumpet player Art Farmer joined the band in 1959. This collaboration did not last long, but luckily there are some live recordings left and a wonderful studio recording ‘What is there to say’.
