Today in World Minerals some gems from very different world music musicians: Karim Baggili, guitar virtuoso and oud player with his quartet from Belgium, Wasis Diop, singer and composer from Senegal and the beloved Qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan from Pakistan.
Karim Baggili is a versatile musician. He is composer, arranger, flamenco guitarist, oud player and singer. The music on the album Cuatro con Cuatro has been influenced by flamenco but also South American rhythms. The Karim Baggili Quartet further consists of Philippe Laloy, flute, Kathy Adam, cello and Osvaldo Hernandez Napoles, percussion.
From Senegal Wasis Diop, composer, arranger and guitarist who mixes folk music from his birth country with pop and jazz. He is internationally known, also composes film music and lives in Paris. We will play three songs of his recent attractive album Judu Bék.
To conclude Qawalli singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan from Pakistan who unfortunately passed away way too young. Qawalli is the devout music of the Sufi’s, a mystical tradition of the Islam. From the album Body and Soul the beautiful song: Mayey Nee Main Dhak Farid Dey Jana or: ‘Mother I have to go to Farid’.
