Pedro Luis Ferrer is called the critical troubadour in Cuba because of his strong views, both musically as politically. He plays Nuera Trova, the Cuban music style as known from the Buena Vista Social Club for example.

The band Skeleton from the township Umlazi in Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa, plays Maskanda music. This is mostly dance music but has also been described as Zulu Blues. The album Skeletons in Joburg was released in 1995 and was produced by Ben Watkin of Juno Reactor.
The music of the CD Fifth Sun of the English lute player Greg Hunter and Egyptian kanun player Amir Abdel Magid is an ideal mix of western production and production techniques, combined with many acoustic Arabic instruments.
