Today in World Minerals some gems in world music by very different musicians: Karim Baggili, guitar virtuoso and oud player with his Quartet from Belgium, Wasis Diop, singer and composer from Senegal and cherished Qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan from Pakistan.
Karim Baggili is a versatile musician. He is composer, arranger, flamenco guitarist, oud player and singer. The music on the album Cuatro con Cuatro was influenced by flamenco but also by South American rhythms. The Karim Baggili Quartet further consists of Philippe Laloy, flute, Kathy Adam, cello en Osvaldo Hernandez Napoles, percussion.
From Senegal Wasis Diop: composer, arranger and guitar player who mixes folk music from his homeland with pop and jazz. He is internationally known, also composes film music and lives in Paris. We will play three songs from his recent album Judu Bék.
To conclude some music by singer Qawalli Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan from Pakistan, who sadly died way to soon. Qawalli is the devoted music of the Sufi’s, a mystical tradition of the Islam. From the album Body and Soul this beautiful song: Mayey Nee Main Dhak Farid Dey Jana, or: ‘Mother I need to go to Farid’.
