Today in World Minerals some musicians from various continents , who recently performed in the Netherlands.
Canadian/Indian singer Kiran Ahluwalia presented her album Wanderlust. She sings ghazal songs, has been inspired by old Indian poets, contemporary Canadian writers and her Ghazal-guru Vithal Rao. Besides the Indian tabla, harmonium and tampura you will also hear the acoustic guitar and the accordion.
3MA is the name of the first album by the trio with the same name. This trio conists of musicians from three different countries in Africa. Rajery is from Madagascar and plays the valiha, Balleké Sissoko is from Mali and plays the kora and Driss El Maloumi from morocco plays the oud. You will hear some songs from this album that show the virtuosity of the trio.
Singer Nuru Kane from Senegal is known in the Netherlands for his debut album ‘Sigil’. He is also a talented guembri player. A guembri is an instrument with three strings that resembles the sound of a bass guitar in a way. Nuru Kane has many styles, but his real interest is the gnawa music.
To conclude the group No Blues consisting of Ad van Meurs (guitar), Haytham Safia (U’d, Arabic lute) and Anne-Maarten van Heuvelen (contra bass). On their latest album Lumen they have been assisted by another four musicians. Their music, that they describe as Arabicana, is played and sung in the narrative tradition that the Folk-Blues and Arab music have in common.
