Current affairs.. Fado from Coimbra by Verdes Anos.
This group was founded in 1996 and makes an important contribution to the development and preservation of fado from Coimbra. This style of fado thanks its name to the fact it originated in Coimbra and has close connections to the academic traditions of the University of Coimbra. During a performance, the musicians traditionally wear their academic outfit and a black cape. The group is named after the song Verdes Anos by Carlos Paredes. Verdes Anos consists of three singers, two guitarras Portugueses and a classical guitar. The style of singing differs extensively from the Lisbon fado. The latter has much more decorations to the vocal line and seems somewhat more expressive because of the Moorish influences.
