The Cape Verdean singer Sara Tavares grew up in Lisbon and earned international recognition with her album Balancê in 2006. On this album she combined the melancholic feel of th Cape Verdean morna and coladeira with Afrobeat and the Angolan semba with reggae. After a long period of radio silence due to serious illness Sara is back with her new album Fitxadu. This album is a cooperation between her and Angolan singers like Toty Sa’Med, Paulo Flores, Kalaf Epalanga and the Cape Verdean singer Princezito.

Accordeon player Simone Bottasso and his brother, violin player Nicolò together form the Duo Bottasso. Both from Italy they play their own compositions and interpretations of Italian and European Folk Songs. Simone Bottasso has been a guest at the musical programme Acoustic Roots twice, once as a soloist and once with Iranian ud player Reza Mirjalali. Sonido Gallo Negro (Black Rooster Sound) is a group of 9 men form eastern Mexico City who only perform instrumental with no lyrics. Their exciting new album even more explores the psychedelic richness and rhythmic beat of the Peruvian cumbia while it focuses on new sounds like mambo, cha cha, porro and danzon at the same time.

Tito Paris performed a lot in nightclubs and cafes in Mindelo and learned a lot from clarinet player Luis Morais and piano player Chico Serra. A the age of nineteen he moved to Lisbon and was the bass guitar player in the Bana’s band Voz de Cabo Verde for four years. Paris formed a band of his own and gained international recognition with his albums Dança Mi Criola (1994) and Graça de Tchega (1996). On his album Mim Ê BO, which was released in 2017, you can hear a large number of artists and contains a lot of his own compositions.
