New releases of Huun Huur Tu and Anewal, the Aka Trio, Oratnitza, Harouna Samake and Olcay Bayir

Two well-known music groups: Huun Huur Tu from Tuva and Anewal from the Sahara will soon release a CD together, titled Nomads’ Roots, which connects these two cultures.

The Aka Trio consists of percussionist Adriano Adewale, kora player Seckou Keita and guitarist Antonio Forcione. It took eight years before their first CD, Joy, was released, because they have each seperately a busy musical life. Joy is a well-chosen title, because it bursts of fun in playing.

Aka Trio

The six-member company Oratnitza takes the Bulgarian tradition, as we know it from the Mystère de Voix Bulgares, as a starting point. The crystal clear voices of Asya Pincheva and Diyana Vassileva leave their mark on this album, but their four male accompanists choose for an unorthodox musical interpretation.

Harouna Samake originates from Mali and is one of Mali’s best kamele n’goni players.
He has been thé n’goni player for the legendary Malinese musician Salif Keita for many years, but has also recorded over 50 albums with Bassekou Kouyaté, Blick Bassy, Djessou Mory Kanté, Zani Diabaté and Bela Fleck.
He has now released his first and long-awaited album titled Kamale Blues.

The Anatolian singer Olcay Bayir has released a new album, titled Rüya, which means dream. Olcay is a classically schooled soprano, who was strongly influenced by her father, an ashik, a musical bard from Anatolia. She grew up in Anatolia, but has lived in London since she was sixteen. This is her second album, on which she shares her own compositions for the first time. it is haar tweede album waarop ze voor het eerst ook haar eigen composities laat horen.
