Top sitar players: Roopa Panesar, Anupama Bhagwat and Anoushka Shankar
Indian raga music in recordings of three world class sitar players. Beautiful and enchanting sounds by Roopa Panesar, Anupama Bhagwat and Anoushka Shankar
1. Roopa Panesar, originating from Great-Britain, received lessons from great Indian sitar players for many years and has built an impressive career, with regular shows abroad. Roopa Panesar plays the raga Mishra Kafi and is accompanied by Anutosh Degharia on the tabla.
2. The Indian musician Anupama Bhagwat, who was also born in 1974, is a sitar player of the highest level and can be found on the international concert stages for many years. She plays the raga Bhimpalas, where she is accompanied by Rahul Pophali on the tabla.
3. Anoushka Shankar, born in 1981 and living in London, is a sitar player and daughter to world famous sitar player Ravi Shankar (1920-2012), from whom she learned the Indian raga music at her mother’s knee. She makes a good impression on the sitar with traditional classic raga repertoire and she is world famous because of her innovative world fusion / crossover music. In this broadcast Anoushka Shankar brings a tribute to the musical inheritance of her father – Ravi Shankar – where she was inspired by a number of his compositions. She does this in a joint live show, which took place in October 2018 in Paris, together with the British composer / music producer Gold Panda, who supplements Anoushka’s sitar play beautifully with electronic swathes of sound.
