Paul Termos was — like his contemporary Guus Janssen and in many respects also Martijn Padding — a composer with a strong preference for a distinctly anti-romantic, cool, and at times even a somewhat matter-of-fact tone in his music. Joey Roukens’ String Quartet No. 3 could not be more different! The same applies to his short work Landschap met Reiziger, written for the Ruysdael Quartet. Max Knigge’s The Strings Around Saturn, Ruysdael’s Windmill by Thomas Beijer, and Plakband by Anne-Maartje Lemereis are also melodious, expressive, and musically witty. We end the programme with an arrangement of Sweelinck by Chiel Meijering.
