The Palace of Nostalgia

thu 18 apr 2024 19:00 hrs
Composer: Miles Davis

Music from times gone by:

Featuring: ‘The adorable’ Blossom Dearie in French (‘Tout doucement’), Frans Halsema on the traveling back and forth at night for shows (‘BV Nooitgedacht Blues’), French folkrock group Les Têtes Raides (‘Ecris moi’) and from the universe of Western Swing The Hi-Flyers with ‘Hi-Flyer Stomp’.

Thanks to a tiny flake of skin coming loose from his lip, Miles Davis added an ‘unheard-of effect’ to ‘Diner au Motel’ from ‘Ascenseur pour l’échafaud’.

Also remarkable: Claude Thornhill and his revolutionary jazz orchestra with arranger Gil Evans (Lover Man’),

And equally innovative, Fletcher Henderson and his swing band performing ‘Sing your sinners’.

Additionally: trumpeter, band leader and tv presenter Bobby Sherwood with a lively band (‘Floatin’), Anita O’Day and Buddy Bregman (‘I won’t dance’), Abbey Lincoln and Max Roach (‘Never leave me’), and from Turkey, near Miss World Tugba Özay with a hint of whisky in her voice with ‘Antiquated love’ – and the rest with a sultry saxophone.

And: ‘queen of Italian song’ Claudio Villa (‘Perdonami’), vocal group The Chordettes (‘Floatin’ down to Cotton Town’), South American tango legend Alberto Castillo (‘Menta Y Cedron’).
