Billy Eckstine (1914-1993) was not only a good trombone player but also an excellent vocalist who became popular very quickly in the 50s. Though he performed with big orchestras a lot, we now hear him in small formations, such as the quartet of pianist Bobby Tucker – recordings from 1947 to 1954.
