25 Years of the Kilima Hawaiians with Rudi Wairata

tue 29 dec 2015

Exitos Musicales on Friday 1 January at 22:00 CET again looks at The Kilima Hawaiians. John Buijsman, the nephew of Bill and Mary Buijsman, is touring the Netherlands in 2016 with a show ´Hula Blues´ based on a treasure trove of recently discovered material from his family.

But… the Kilima’s have been around for much longer?

Indeeed, much much longer. They were around for 55 years and were the world's longest-existing Hawaiian music group. There were not even bands in Hawaï that lasted as long. 1960 was however an exceptional year. Just when everyone, and especially the Hawaii fans, though that the position of the Kilima’s had been taken over by ‘the big boys’, the guitar virtuosos Rudi Wairata and then George de Fretes, they managed to stage a remarkable recovery.
