Tuesday 6th Oktober 2015 from 19.00-20.00 . A continuation of programme maker/presenter Thijs Bonger's quest through the immense repertoire of Johann Nepomuk Hummel, who lived from 1778 to 1837.
Around 1810 Hummel worked as chief composer for Count Esterhazy. He also worked as pianist and composer. Episode X of ‘ A Second Chance for Hummel’ starts with one of his highly popular solo piano works, ‘La bella capricciosa’. As a faithful student of Mozart's he also composed operas. He wrote 15, of which only one ‘Mathilde von Guise’, has appeared on cd. We're playing excerpts from it. Original, well written and brilliantly orchestrated music.
