Africa festival Hertme books Cheikh Lô

tue 30 dec 2025
Theme: World Music

With New Year’s Eve fast approaching, the organisers of the annual Africa Festival are already looking ahead to the summer. It’s off to a great start with the first announcement for the upcoming edition: Cheikh Lô is returning to Hertme.

The 70-year-old Senegalese singer and percussionist combines West African traditions with Cuban son, Congolese rumba, and reggae. He was discovered by Youssou N’Dour and has been a fixture in world music since the 1990s, Cheikh Lô recently released the album Maame, an intimate, personal project recorded during the COVID lockdown in Dakar. It’s an impressive album, blending tradition, spirituality, and modern influences. There’s a good chance he’ll perform songs from this new work during his performance in Hertme.

Concertzender Live regularly broadcasts recordings made at the Africa Festival, and you can also experience the atmosphere of previous editions on the festival’s YouTube channel.

Early bird tickets for the Africa Festival 2026 are available here at a discount until December 31st.
