We have frequently featured Solomon’s Knot in our programme Bach ad Infinitum. We would now like to draw your attention to the new album Köthener Trauermusik by this English ensemble led by Jonathan Sells, .
The music for this project was reconstructed exclusively for them by Chad Kelly, both for a series of live performances and a CD recording. The Bach ad Infinitum team is absolutely thrilled by this ensemble’s performance.
What makes Solomon’s Knot unique is that they perform entirely without a choral score. This approach fosters a profound connection to the music. The polyphonic clarity, perfect balance and precise articulation of Bach’s contrapuntal lines are not the result of a conductor’s cues, but emerge because the singers have fully internalised both the text and the music.
Artistic director Jonathan Sells is a man of many talents. Following the departure of Sir John Eliot Gardiner, he stepped into his role with the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists. In addition, he conducts various orchestras and frequently shines as a soloist under other conductors—most recently with the J.S. Bach-Stiftung in Trogen, under the direction of Rudolf Lutz.
Solomon’s Knot is currently touring the Netherlands with a programme of J.S. Bach’s motets, with concerts in The Hague and Amsterdam.
These brilliant performances are guaranteed to sweep you off your feet—taking you all the way to heaven.
