In ‘Difficult Student’ we’re playing two of Beethoven’s first three piano sonatas. Broadly composed they already demonstrate typical Beethoven characteristics: deep and occasionally passionate. He dedicated them to his teacher Haydn, who was present when Beethoven himself premiered them. Beethoven witnessed the birth of Haydn’s 99th Symphony as an intern. He was deeply impressed.
