Difficult Student III

sun 28 feb 2021

Our series about the relationships between Haydn and Beethoven continues on Tuesday 2 March at 20:00 CET.

Beethoven was 16 years old when he played the viola during the German premiere of Haydn’s ‘Sieben letzten Worte’. He was then already starting to make a name for himself in Bonn, particularly as an extremely virtuoso pianist. He was also composing at this age. In the programme you can listen to a piano quartet and a violin sonata by Mozart that were the inspiration for some of these early works. There is also a moving lied by Schubert that was also based on the same violin sonata by Mozart.
