Earwitness #66: the turning point

mon 6 jan 2014

'Everything in memory of you…’, our series about Russian music from the 20th century, reaches the turning point of the Great Patriotic War on 6 January (20:00 – 22:00).

The war moved outside the borders of Russia and the Red Army advanced through Poland and Belarus towards Germany. The allied landing at Normandy on the 6 June 1944 also opened a western front that slowly advanced towards Germany.

The programme includes the Piano trio by Mieczysław Weinberg, the Cello concert by Nikolaj Mjaskovski and the triumphant Fifth Symfony by Sergej Prokofjev.

And, of course, Gavriil Popovs music for 'The Turning Point' (foto).
