Part XXXIII • Hummel's very succesful and lucrative concert tour to London called for a continuation. He went back in 1831 when all of Europe was weighed down by social unrest often resulting in revolution. England also could not escape this and when Hummel arrived in London, Parliament had just been dissolved and new elections were called. Everyone's attention was fixed at this and a foreign piano virtuoso suddenly wasn't that important anymore. Hummel played some concerts which were not very well attended at all.

Producer and host Thijs Bonger continues his search through the life and works of Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837). Part VII starts in 1807 and pictures the tremendous work ethic and the versatility of Hummel. He is still employed by the monarch Esterhazy, but has many jobs on the side as a pianist and composer, and brings his well-paid position as court composer in danger. And he gets into a fight with Beethoven. We will hear chamber music, piano music, parts from a mass and a bassoon concerto.

In part we will hear the integral performance of his Mass in d minor, a forgotten masterpiece filled with intense emotions. And two honourable bows to his beloved teacher Mozart. As a child he lived in Mozart's house for two years.

In part XXII of the Hummel Revisited series, host Thijs Bonger takes you to Weimar, where Hummel enjoys his work at court. During his contractual vacation of three months he gives concerts in Berlin where he premieres his own revolutionary and virtuoso piano concert. It's a revelation.

Part XXXVIII (End) • Astonishment about the beauty of a totally unknown string quartet via the car radio lead to a three year thorough investigation, a worldwide hunt on publications and CDs with his music and… 38 hours of radio, titled 'Herkansing voor Hummel'. Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) was once the most famous composer of Europe, but soon after he passed away he was forgotten. Today will go about his final days. Despite his health problems, there are still some pieces he's able to compose. He writes an interesting and partially groundbreaking series of piano etudes op.125. An example to Chopin, great admirer of Hummel. A selection of that with a single reference to etudes which Chopin has grafted on those of Hummel. And an elegant and virtuous work for violin and piano.
