Eugène Francis Charles d'Albert was the son of a French-Italian father and an English mother and was born in Scotland 150 years ago. In his twenties he travelled to Austria and from that time onwards disowned his English background and considered himself to be German. At this time he also changed his name to Eugen d'Albert.
