Nordic Sounds, Friday 6 June 21:00 CET
The Finnish band Frigg is celebrating its 25th anniversary. That is reason for Nordic Sounds to pay tribute to this six-piece folk band. Frigg – with violins, guitar, zither, mandolin and double bass – play traditional Finnish and other Scandinavian dance music and in their own compositions they mix it with all sorts of other music styles, such as bluegrass (their music is also called nordgrass), Balkan and even classical music.
Programme maker and folk music expert Marius Roeting has put together an hour full of Frigg music and on the website there is a link to even more Frigg (with the personal choices of our other Folk programme maker, Geert de Vos).
It promises to be something special. According to Marius, Frigg can get your feet on the floor, but with their melancholic melodies they can also make you cry. In the words of the band themselves: “After twenty-five years, twelve albums, about a thousand performances,in thirty countries and tens of thousands of kilometers of travelling … the passion still burns!”
