tue 21 apr 2015

Concertzender Live on Friday 24 April 20:00 CET presents a concert by the Greek rebetika groep Kompanía. The concert was recorded in Rasa in Utrecht on 20 March 2014.

Kompanía consists of five musicians from Athens and is led by the female vocalist Katerina Tsiridou. The group plays rebetika from the golden age of the genre. Kompania have an authentic Greek sound with instruments including bouzouki, baglama, úd and accordeon and play rebetika, a style of music that was both popular and infamous in the cities of Greece from the 1920s to the 1950s.  Rebetika is the Greek blues and the songs concern sex, drugs, crime, poverty and a yearning to return home. There has been a major renewal of interest in rebetika since 2010.
