Gregorian chant from the Gudula office and Spanish Renaissance music

thu 17 nov 2016

Concertzender Live on Friday 25 November at 15:00 CET goes far back into the past with Gregorian chant from the Gudula office sung by Ars Choralis and Spanish Renaissance minstrel music played by La Caravaggia.

The local archives in the city of Zutphen contain the 15th century office manuscript GAZ6. The manuscript contains an antiphonale with chants for the summer and also includes some later additions made in Deventer in the 16th century during a restoration.

Gudula was an important saint who was venerated in Zutphen and the surrounding area.

The schola Ars Choralis was formed by Els Dijkerman and first sung the Gudula office in 2012. They again performed this music during the Gregorian Festival 2016 in ‘s Hertogenbosch.

The concert In Mani dei Catalani from La Caravaggia lets you hear the music that was played by minstrels in 16th century Spain. The pieces that are performed come from the Cancioneros, an important part of the repertoire for minstrels . These Cancioneros show influences from both Spain and Italy.
