Mariss Jansons

wed 18 dec 2019

Conductor Mariss Jansons passed away on 30th November. In the programme The Last Century on 19th December we’ll cover this.

Jansons was chief conductor of the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest from 2004 to 2015. His repertoire was generally conservative, with the emphasis on well-known romantic repertoire from Middle and Eastern Europe. There were exceptions. In the programme on 19th December we’re playing, alongside works by Richard Strauss and an early Anton Webern, the piece ‘Feast During a Plague’ (‘Gastmaal tijdens de pest’) by Sofia Goebajdoelina from 2005.
