Pocket Concerts (10) –– NIA

NIA (Ralinova) is a singer and cellist who combines her two instruments—her voice and the cello—into a distinctive sound. In 2024, she released her debut single, 111, which launched her career as a musician. In addition to her own work, Nia is active in various projects at the intersection of jazz, soul, R&B, folk, and contemporary music.

Her trio consists of pianist Anton de Bruin and bassist Marijn van de Ven. Both musicians are established names in the Dutch jazz scene. Anton de Bruin has performed internationally and is known for his versatility on piano, synthesizers, and Rhodes. He was featured on trumpeter Peter Somuah’s album, Letter to the Universe, released on ACT Music, which received international acclaim. Bassist Marijn van de Ven also features in the same project and is active in various ensembles that explore both traditional and modern jazz idioms.

Together, the trio creates a setting where Nia’s songs and arrangements can develop in dialogue with Anton’s harmonic approach and Marijn’s grounded bass playing. Their repertoire includes both original compositions and reinterpretations of existing material, often leaving room for improvisation.

With 111 as her first official release and new material in development, Nia Ralinova is establishing herself as a songwriter and performer. Supported by Anton de Bruin and Marijn van de Ven, she continues to build a body of work that combines her background as a cellist with her growing presence as a singer and bandleader.
