*Digging the Archives
It was a natural choice for Ilja to unearth a piece from the archives by one of his greatest inspirations, Jerry van Rooijen (1928-2009). Jerry was a composer, arranger, bandleader and trumpeter whose influence on the development of jazz in the Netherlands cannot be overstated. Ilja, who was a member of Jerry’s Dutch Jazz Orchestra, chose this beautiful composition by Jerry, with the very fitting title: “Because I Love You.”
