Radio Romantica

mon 27 sep 2021 12:00 hour

Musical Romanticism, explored by Pieter de Oude.

One hour of chamber music; one hour of Dvořák. In Radio Romantica, you will hear two of the best-known and best-loved works by the Bohemian master. The English Florestan Trio will play the Dumky Trio, in which Dvořák does away with the clichés of classical chamber music and allows the structure and atmosphere of Czech folk music to predominate. Slow and sad, fast and furious alternate in the score. By doing so, he gave the German professors in Vienna and Berlin something to think about. Dvořák chose his own path anyway, and it brought him to New York as a teacher at the conservatory, but as a tourist he took the train to Spillville, Iowa, to compose the most fantastic chamber music surrounded by Czech settlers. His String Quartet op.96, his American Quartet has been part of our repertoire for over a century. The Pavel Haas Quartet from Prague will play for you. They touch the soul of their homeland with their playing.
