The Palace of Nostalgia

Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg.

Featuring the dazzling, half Native American, Lee Wiley and her sad voice (‘My melancholy baby’), the Metropole Orchestra on the album ‘Kodachrome’ with compositions by Raymond Scott, arranger Nelson Riddle sounding elated in ‘Holiday in Naples’.

Also, Dinah Washington, Peggy Lee, bandleader John Abriani mit seinem Tanz-Orkester, Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong (‘Can’t we be friends’), Melody Gardot, Leroy Anderson, Alessandro Alessandroni, and Roy Eldridge with Dizzy Gillespie and Oscar Peterson country-swinging in ‘Drebirks’,

Special attention to Ted Weems, who entered a competition as a child hoping to win a pony, but it turned out to be a violin – and a career in music was the result. With art whistler Elmo Tanner, we hear him in ‘Somebody stole my gal’ and the famous ‘Heartaches’.
