Jono McCleery recorded live in his garden studio in Rotterdam
Last year, when the outlines of the pandemic kept becoming more apparent, and we were not able to use our usual space in Podium Oost, we decided to go “on tour” for the recording of Acoustic Roots and visit singer-songwriter Jono McCleery in his garden studio in Rotterdam.
Now, a year later, we are in the middle of the 3rd wave, but fortunately with the prospect of normalisation. Until then, we will repeat some episodes, including Acoustic Moods.
Singer-songwriter Jono McCleery hails from the South-East of London and currently lives in Rotterdam. He has been playing the guitar since he was 18 years old. He learned the trade in England at the London live music circuit.
Besides his solo performances and those with his group, he has performed with Gil Scott Heron, Bonobo, Fink, Jose Gonzales, Little Dragon, Jamie Woon and the Portico Quartet. He has since released six albums, Keep a Memory being the latest of them.
Because of the pandemic, the Acoustic Roots team decided to visit him in his garden studio to record a programme.
It became an intimate performance; Jono played his new songs, and Karin van de Boogaerdt interviews him about his music.
He has been a guest at Acoustic Roots before in 2016, where we recorded the Kargadoor. You can listen to it here.
